Scopolamin ist ein Tropanalkaloid, chemisch sehr eng mit Hyoscyamin und Atropin verwandt. Scopolamin kommt neben Hyoscyamin in zahlreichen Scopolia-, Duboisia- und Datura-Arten vor (Solanaceae).

Pflanzliche rezeptpflichtige Ophthalmika

Pflanzliche Miotika finden in erster Linie zur Glaukombehandlung Anwendung. Für die medikamentöse Therapie stehen von pflanzlichen Arzneimitteln die Miotika Pilocarpin und Physostigmin zur Verfügung.

Pilocarpin wird aus den Blättern mehrerer in Südamerika beheimateter Pilocarpus- Arten, insbesondere aus Pilocarpus jaborandi (Jaborandi folium). Pilocarpin hat parasympathikomimetische Eigenschaften.

Falls es mit Pilocarpin nicht gelingt, den Druck ausreichend zu senken, verwendet man Physostigmin. Physostigmin ist das Hauptalkaloid der Calabarbohnen genannten Samen von Physostigma venenosum, einer afrikanischen Schlingpflanze aus der Familie der Schmetterlingsblütler (Fabaceae).

Pflanzliche Mydriatika

Atropin ist ein Alkaloid, das bereits 1831 aus einem Nachtschattengewächs (Solanaceae), aus der Wurzel der Tollkirsche (Atropa belladonna) isoliert worden ist.

Atropin und Scopolamin führen zu Pupillenerweiterung. Die Wirkungen sind sehr anhaltend. Einträufeln von 1-2 Tropfen einer 0,5-1%igen Atropinlösung in den Konjunktivalsack führt zur Mydriasis, die 6-8 Tage anhält.

Atropin und Scopolamin werden bei Iritis verwendet, bei der die Iris immobilisiert werden soll und bei der es ferner wichtig ist, Adhäsionen der Iris mit der Linse zu verhindern. Auch Anwendung als Diagnostika, z.B. bei der Betrachtung des Augenhintergrundes oder bei der Ausmessung der Sehleistungsfähigkeit des Auges.

Cocain ist chemisch eng mit Atropin verwandt. Hauptalkaloid aus den Blättern der Kokapflanze Erythoxylum coca, die zu der wenig bekannten Pflanzenfamilie der Kokastrauchgewächse (Erythroxylaceae) gehört. Wird in der Ophthalmologie als Lokalanästhetikum verwendet.Betäubungsmittelgesetz!
